*Tournament and playoff time is an exciting time of year for athletes, coaches, and fans. We have arrived at that time for all of our fall sports.... The volleyball team has their conference tournament in Oelwein tomorrow (10/19) and then will begin regional tournament action a week from Monday at New Hampton(10/28). They will play New Hampton in a 7:00 start with the winner advancing to play on Thursday (10/31) at Iowa Falls vs. the winner of the Iowa Falls/Osage matchup. The football team has a key tilt with West Delaware this evening to determine who will in all likelihood host a first round playoff game. The first round game will be Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Cadet harriers have their state qualifying meet this coming Thursday (10/24) in Waverly. The girls race at 4:00 and the boys at 4:30. The top 3 teams and the top 10 individuals advance to the state meet at Fort Dodge on Nov. 2nd. Give the student-athletes and their coaches your well wishes when you get a chance!
*I want to thank the Cresco Golf Course board of directors, Rich Barr, and the other golf course employees for their assistance and cooperation with the NEIC Cross Country Meet on Tuesday, Oct. 15. I also want to thank the ladies for giving up their course for the evening. Although the elements weren't very favorable, it was a great event attended by over 450 athletes and three times that number of fans. With the help of several How-Winn. volunteers, the meet was a smooth success. I am proud of how well Crestwood hosted a major conference event.
*Jr. High girls basketball will begin practice next week with their first game in a couple of weeks. The jr. high wrestling season will get underway in a few weeks. As we transition into the winter sports seasons, I can safely say we are all hoping for a safe winter weather season.
