An Introduction to Competency Based Education
We Want Your Input!!!
The Junior High and High School Climate and Culture Building Leadership Teams (BLT) are seeking parental input on how to improve Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you have not already done so, you can complete a short survey at the following links:
Are Class Ranks Dying?
The Des Moines Register printed an interesting article in the December 4, 2013 edition. The concept of eliminating class ranks was discussed at length.
The 7-12 Academic BLT will be reviewing this subject after the Christmas break. I value your input on this topic. Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts.
Our school will be partnering with BrightBytes, an educational software company, so that we can learn more about our school’s technology use for student learning. Our goal is to gather data on technology access and skills, and on our school’s technology environment, in order to understand the connection between technology use and student achievement.
To gain these insights, we must provide BrightBytes with a complete picture of technology use at school and at home. We will be asking students, teachers, and parents to participate in the project to help us gather this data.
Your participation is important to us and will make the difference between having a complete versus a limited understanding of our school’s technology use.
Please watch for updates on when this survey will come out.

Cadets for a Clause
Throughout the months of November and December, Howard-Winneshiek students have been working on the Character Counts pillar “Caring”. One way of becoming compassionate, caring citizens is to help others. Through the end of December, students will be collecting monetary donations to help families within our school district who are experiencing hardships. No donation could ever be too small. (This even includes pocket change!) Please send your donation in an envelope or bag to the Cresco K-8 or High School buildings marked “Cadets for a Clause”. The money will be used to buy gifts and food so that families may have a wonderful holiday season. THANK YOU to Riley Galvin for coordinating this great cause!
