What a month....weather issues continue to affect sports schedules...it may sound like a broken record, but we are still in a deep-freeze and more events have been either cancelled or postponed. Most of the changes have been posted on either the conference website or the school calendar. Nate Troy, Sports Editor, will likely have the changes next week in the Times Plain Dealer as well, but here is a quick update of the most recent schedule changes:
1) Both the wrestling and boys basketball will attempt to make up Thursday's postponement on Monday, Jan. 27 at Decorah - same time schedule as was originally planned...4:45 start on the JV basketball, followed by varsity basketball, followed by varsity wrestling. (The JV will not wrestle at Decorah as they are in the Riceville tournament on Monday)
2) The 9th grade girls and boys were going to play at Decorah on Monday, but now they will play at Crestwood to make room for the other rescheduled events - girls start at 6:00, followed by boys.
3) The 9th grade games vs. St. Ansgar scheduled for Jan. 23 have not been rescheduled yet, nor have the Jr. High boys basketball games vs. Charles City.
4) The Jr. High wrestling meet at Riceville has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, Jan. 28.
JV/Varsity Wrestling Meet Added...The JV & Varsity wrestlers have added a meet today (Jan. 24) at North Fayette to make up for a lost meet earlier in the year. Wrestling begins at 5:30.
Events not postponed...
1.) The Cadet basketball teams were able to get games in this past Tuesday as the girls traveled to WSR and the boys hosted WSR in key conference match-ups. All games were intensely contested. The WSR girls won the 9th and varsity games while the Cadet JV girls were victorious. The WSR boys won the JV and varsity while the Cadet boys pulled out the 9th grade game. Since the last blog, the Cadet varsity teams were also victorious over St. Ansgar and Oelwein. The 9th boys, JV boys, and JV girls were also victorious over Oelwein.
2.) The varsity wrestling team also won another tournament at MFL this past weekend. This was their 3rd tournament championship this season. The varsity had 10 wrestlers in the finals crowning four champs.

With all of the inconsistency in practice and game schedules, the Crestwood coaches have done an excellent job of rolling with the punches and adapting the best they can to get the teams ready to compete. Good job coaches! And a big shout-out to the athletes for adjusting as well and continuing to have very fine seasons.
New Football Districts Announced...
1.) The new football districts were just posted and can be found on the IHSAA website. Crestwood will be in 3A District #3 along with Decorah, Waverly-Shell Rock, Charles City, Independence, Vinton-Shellsburg, and West Delaware. Non-district opponents, the crossover district opponent, and the exact schedule will be posted next month.
2.) Possible changes in the number of regular season games and the playoff schedule were on the discussion table for the Board of Control. However, no major changes will occur for the next two years as schools will still have a nine game schedule with either four or five home games the next two years.
3.) A scrimmage will again be an option for the preseason with the potential of having four schools on site for a scrimmage, but teams can only scrimmage one team.
There is still much of the winter sports schedule ahead of us, and if the weather cooperates, it promises to be an exciting rest of the winter season. District match-ups for basketball will be published very soon and the hope is that the Cadets will get to host a game or two. And, again, Crestwood will be the host of a 2A Sectional Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 8.
