It's Spring Sports Tournament Time...Even though the weather may not show it, the calendar does.  It is tournament time for spring sports.  Here is a recap of this past week...

Girls NEIC Golf Meet at Oelwein - This meet was postponed on Monday due to nasty weather and rescheduled to Tuesday.  The girls finished 5th as a team and Savannah Lentz was the overall runner-up, earning All-Conference honors.  Congrats to Savannah!!
  • The girls begin regional play on Monday, May 19th.  Crestwood will be hosting the regional meet at the Cresco Country Club.  The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
Boys Sectional Golf at Charles City - Today the boys golf team was competing at the sectional meet in Charles City.  At the time of publication of this post, no report was available for how the boys did.  This will be in next week's update.
  • The boys will be back in Charles City on Monday, May 19th for the NEIC Golf Meet.
NEIC Girls & Boys Track - The NEIC Co-Ed track meet was held Monday at New Hampton.  The weather was certainly challenging, but at this point the track athletes have become accustomed to it.  The boys placed in a tie for 5th and the girls placed 3rd, just one point behind 2nd place Charles City.  The conference champ for the boys was WSR and Decorah won the girls title.  The Cadets had some very strong performances lead by first place finishes by Tristan Bohr in the high jump, Kate Sheehy in the 3000 meter run, and Matthew Ferrie in the Wheelchair 100 & 200.  Other conference medalists include Miranda Kerian, Lattie Crozier, Megan Guyer, Sydney Ferrie, & Brandon Slifka.  Congrats to these all-conference performers!!
  • A complete listing of results can be found on the website

State Qualifying Meet for Track- Last night at the state qualifying meet in Waverly, the girls and boys were able to qualify several events for the state meet, which will be held in Des Moines at Drake Stadium Thursday, May 22 - Saturday, May 24.  The weather was again a bit iffy, but many Cadets performed admirably.  The boys placed 6th as a team and the girls placed 5th out of the 8 team field.

Congratulations to the following state qualifiers: Matthew Ferrie in the Wheelchair 100, 200, and 400; Brandon Slifka in the discus; Matthew Cuvelier in the long jump; Kate Sheehy in the 3000 meters, 1500 meters and the Distance Medley; Miranda Kerian in the 100, 200, and Distance Medley, and Megan Guyer and Madison Sickles in the Distance Medley.  This is Miranda's 4th year of qualifying for the state track meet and Megan's 2nd year.  All others are first time qualifiers.  Good Luck to all of the state qualifiers!  Cadet Nation is proud of you!!
  • A complete listing of competitors and time schedule can be found on either the girls union or boys association websites.
*The jr. high track teams have their conference meets today - the boys compete at New Hampton and the girls are at Waukon.

The first baseball and softball games are just a week from next Tuesday...a sure sign of summer!! Have a great weekend!
