Looking ahead...District Redesign
We now know that all 4th grade students will be educated in Lime Springs beginning next fall. Now the conversation turns to the logistics of making this happen.

The intent will be that the teaching and learning at Lime Springs will follow the same model with the same supports available to all other grade levels in the district. We also are working at determining the model that best serves our 6th grade students.

We have a tentative date of May 27 for introducing next year's 4th grade to the Lime Springs/Chester School in coordination with an evening Open House for parents and students.

Transportation plans are still being developed and will be shared once complete.
Classroom assignments will be determined soon.

IRA (International Reading Association) Conference
http://www.reading.org/annual-conference-2014/
Next year's kindergarten teachers attended the International Reading Association Conference in New Orleans from May 9-12. This trip was made available through SINA funds.

Dear Mr. Carver and Members of Howard-Winneshiek CSD Board of Education,

We would like to thank you for providing us the opportunity to attend the International Reading Association Conference in New Orleans, LA. We gained a wealth of information we are able to bring back and share with the Howard Winn staff. It was exciting to implement many of the ideas right away upon our return. Special topics of interest were poetry, comprehension, phonemic awareness, read-alouds, storytelling, reading for content, instructional strategies, and technology integration.

We were proud to realize how advanced our district is in many of these areas compared to other educational institutions represented. Besides the many strategies we learned, we were also pleased to gain a better understanding of the culture of this part of our country. This helps us be more aware and informed educators as we share the world with our students.

Sincerely,
Greg Adams
