Win with Wellness!
Friday, Sept. 5 was a fun, fit, fantastic day at Howard-Winn Schools! Our focus was wellness and the challenge was fitness!  The fun kicked off in the high school gym where our cheerleaders taught us a fun dance that will be utilized on and off throughout the school year during classroom time to help kids focus and get the "wiggles" out.  The song played will "pop up" and start playing during our school day for a minute or two - the students and teachers will take a quick break to dance a few moves and get their blood pumping and brains moving!  This will be a fun and inspirational way to remind kids about the importance of fitness and will also activate their brains for learning!  Thank you Cheryl Dickman and all the Wellness Committee for a wonderful experience!  Here are some photos from Win with Wellness!

Remembering 9/11

Most of us can remember that horrible and infamous day we remember as 9/11.  I was teaching at an alternative high school when my husband called me and simply said, "We are under attack."  My students and I did not have a T.V. in our classroom, so we all hurried across the street to watch the horrific events unfold. I still can't believe it.

Today, I had the opportunity to visit Kelly Sorenson's 5th grade class as they discussed 9/11.  It is very interesting to talk with students who were not alive at that time and yet, they seemed to understand. Mrs. Sorenson, through technology and hands-on visuals was reaching out and helping her students see, hear and understand with their hearts the tragedy and the heroism of the people who both saved and lost lives on this day.

The picture on the top shows the students drawing the American Flag and reflecting on the great country we live in. The bottom picture shows the class having a fun/funny picture, regrouping from a very serious and important discussion.  "May we always forgive..may we never forget those we lost, those who saved, those who were left behind."

Giving to others and offering opportunities for our students to experience the joy of giving is important to the school community of Crestwood Community Schools. I met Aiden this summer and was awed by his passion to give and to teach others to give.  I was thinking of this wise young man as I wrote about 9/11 and wanted to share his mission and his passion to give with all of you.  Please click on this link to watch this short video.
