Homecoming 2014
This past week has been FANTASTIC! The enthusiasm and school spirit was energizing! With visits from "super heros" to "John Hancock Day" (everyone signs each others shirt) to "Throw Back Day" to Blue and White Day, students had fun and enjoyed the moments. A special THANK YOU goes out to the Homecoming Committee and your servant leadership to make this event special.

GOOD LUCK to the CADET Football TEAM.
Beat the Mustangs!

Enrollment
October 1st, the District conducted the 2014-15 "head count". This is a "snap shot" of the all the students of the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District. In the days to come the enrollment count will be verified and will reflect not only "seats in the seat" but also In and Out Open enrollments. The enrollment will be officially certified with the Iowa Department of Education on October 15. Historically the District has been loosing on average 18.7 kids a year. (2006 enrollment of 1,420 to a 2013 enrollment of 1,289.) We anticipate a number greater than this when enrollment is certified on October 15. An update will be shared with the Board at the October 13th meeting. More information will come.

Branding the District
For the last two years the Board has been having discussions on the name and identity of the School District. There is a disconnect between "Howard-Winneshiek" and "Crestwood". Folks around the State know about the Howard-Winneshiek School District but do not know that Crestwood is the high school. In Athletic contests folks know about Crestwood High School but do not realize it is part of the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District. Case in point: at the Girl's State Basketball Tournament last year folks did not know that Crestwood is the high school at Howard-Winn.

As the District works with County and communities officials to recruit families to the area, there has been reflection and thinking of "rebranding" Howard-Winn. The purpose being to create a unified identity for the District. Having "Crestwood" serve both as the name of the District as well as the High School has been lifted up as a possibility. More information will follow.
