Youth Frontiers - The Character Challenge



Student Counseling Support
Crestwood High School will now be hosting a counselor from Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health - Decorah available to see see students during a study hall. Below is the process to arrange an appointment for your son/daughter to receive counseling.

- Call Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health at 563-382-3649 or 1-800-400-8923.
- When calling to set up your first appointment, please tell the receptionist that you would like your son/daughter to be seen at Crestwood High School.  
- The receptionist will then schedule your first appointment in Decorah with the correct counselor.  
- Following the initial meeting, you son or daughter can be seen at the High School during a study hall.

    • Summer of Listening - COMPLETED
    • Early Out Wednesday Revised Schedule - COMPLETED
    • Student Led Conferences - COMPLETED
    • Writing Competencies - NEARING COMPLETION
    • Develop Rubrics – BEING DISCUSSION


  • 2015-2016
    • Competency Recovery Plans
      • Template - DEVELOPED
        CRP developed after failing to master 1st competency of a course.  Definitive when 2 competencies are not met. 3 competencies - highly suggested to retake course
      • Remediation/reassessment will be required for all courses
      • Sequential competencies - immediate CRP development.  Teacher determination on start
      • Non-sequential competencies - wait until halfway point of course (reassessment can be concurrent)
      • CRP can be established immediately, not waiting until semester
      • 10 business days with only excuse of hospitalization, funeral, etc. to develop the plan.
      • If plan is not developed after 10 business days, student receives an F.
    • Athletic Eligibility
      • CRP would be incomplete.  If plan is not developed after 10 business days, student receives an F.  Teacher/student determination when plan should be completed.  If not completed by deadline, student receives an F.  Deadline cannot be longer than start of tournament playoffs/sectionals in sport
      • At semester, if less than 60% of competencies are considered proficient (2 rating), student is considered to earn an F.

    • Competencies in Place
      • Grades 7/8 in 2016-2017

    • Grade Status
      • Defined as 2 years to complete JH competencies
      • Year 1,2,3,4 in HS  - 4 years to complete HS competencies
      • Athletic Eligibility would still be only 4 years (State level)
    • Advancing Upon Proficiency
      • Student who shows proficiency in course competencies before the halfway point of the course can enter a new course with teacher discretion
      • Student who shows proficiency in course competencies beyond the halfway point of a course can not enter a new course or teacher discretion.
      • Student who shows proficiency in course competencies before the halfway point of the course can work on Competency Recovery Plans (CRP) from other courses.  Agreements should be made between teachers.
