US Army Robotics Presentation
Jacob Carlson from the US ARMY presented to over 150  Project Lead The Way students in grades 7-12 about the many opportunities for careers in Science Technology Engineering and Math. Students got the opportunity to control robots viewed through the camera linked to the laptop. Besides demonstrating and sharing the robots he also talked a lot about, helping others in need and being a positive and productive member of society through volunteering, etc.

Homebase Academic Interventions
In an effort to provide a common time for core subject teachers to have a specific time within the school day to meet with students, we are going to begin implementation of a new approach to our Homebase time.  This time will be used to meet with students who may have questions, require re-teaching, or just need a little extra help.  This is one of the processes we will put in place to provide resources and learning experiences to meet individual student needs in the High School.

Students will check PowerSchool for their current academic progress during homebase on Monday.  If they are receiving a failing grade, or have missing and/or late work, they will be required to attend the tutorial session on the appropriate day.  This time isn't just for students with missing and/or late work... it is for any student that may benefit from additional time with a teacher.

Monday - all students check current grades in PowerSchool
Tuesday - English Department
Wednesday - Math Department
Thursday - Science Department
Friday - Social Studies Department

Student do not need to wait until the designated day to receive the assistance, they may get the help ASAP and this is not the only time extra help is available.  As in the past, teachers are still available before and after school and/or during other mutually agreed upon times to meet with students. We plan to get this up and running and then add specific days for other departments to offer a homebase tutorial opportunity for students.

#cadetnation Friday
Reminder: #cadetnation Fridays are the first Friday of every month. This is a way to show your Cadet spirit. Remember to wear your #cadetnation t-shirt on the first Friday of the month.  Students, wear your #cadetnation shirt on Friday, February 5th.

If you don't have a #cadetnation t-shirt or it is in the laundry, wear another cadet shirt or just wear blue that day.

Was there a particular event or person that inspired you to become an educator?
My high school math teacher wrote on my test during my senior year "The makings of a great math teacher." That really got me thinking that I could make a difference.

What is your favorite thing about Howard-Winn?

The staff is really great to work with and we look out for each other and help each other whenever we can.

Any words of wisdom or advice?
