This week, the Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools Foundation launched!  This organization is committed to financially supporting learning. Classrooms needs, IT equipment, furniture, field trips, those things which are becoming challenging to fund in a time of declining enrollment and State funding shortfalls. The Howard-Winneshiek Community School District greatly appreciates this initiative and THANKS those who choose to invest in the young people.  Be sure to check out this video!  ROCK ON CADET NATION!

Spring Ahead Learning Center is open for business!
IMPORTANT: The Spring Ahead Learning Center in Lime Springs is a FANTASTIC facility and a wonderful program. Check them out on FACEBOOK at at

The Spring Ahead Learning Center is NOT a part/program of the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District. The transfer of the Howard-Winn Lime Springs Campus to the city of Lime Springs will not affect the Springs Ahead Learning Center.  Spring Ahead Learning Center, quality child care, important beginnings!

TLC = Servant Leadership
Work continues to move forward on Howard-Winn's Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) initiative.  From across the state, Howard-Winn joins other Districts in designing and implementing new structure to support teaching and learning.  As momentum increases I think a foundation concept to be included is the concept of "Servant Leadership".

Many of us understand "leadership" to be someone out front, telling others what to do. A servant leader's priority is to ensure other's people's needs are being served. The best test, and difficult to measure, is: Do those served grow as persons? Do they, while being served, become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? What a positive lesson to be modeled to our students and community.

Stay tuned, more information will follow.
Hours of Instruction Update

Please review the update on the hours of instruction. As it stand now our "bank" has 23.5 hours in it.

Activities Update:
2A Football 2016-17 / 2017-18
With changes in enrollment, Howard-Winn will compete in 2A Football this fall. This means
new opponents and a new Football District. Football Districts are set up by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, which also assigns non-district play.

For the next two years, Crestwood will be in 2A, District #2. Meetings to be held soon will "set the schedule" of home and away contests as well as setting up sub-varsity schedule. For the latest updates check out

The information at this time addresses ONLY FOOTBALL. The change in status of other sports, and the classification level the CADETS might compete at, will come out later this spring.

on the go!
