The Crestwood FFA Chapter has a rich heritage and tradition of preparing young people to enter into the many fields of Agribusiness. This past week it was my honor and privilege to attend the 2016 FFA Awards Banquet.  It was inspirational to see the many students be recognized for their accomplishments.

Mr. Adam's and the Chapter have my greatest respect.

Instructional Hours
Howard-Winn operates on Instructional Hours.  With the school closing on March 24 due to snow, "banked hours" have been exhausted.  We now have 6 hours of instructional time that needs to be made up.

The plan is that this time, and any additional time, will be "made up" at the end of the school year. This will begin the afternoon of May 24, 2016.

There may be additional lost instructional time due to weather, specifically fog.

Again, from this point on lost instructional time will be added to the end of the school year.

School Funding for 2016-17
The Legislature has come to agreement, and recommended to Governor Branstad, a 2.25% increase in State funding to schools.  It is important to note from the release, of the 336 school districts "seventy-two will see no growth or a decline in regular school aid. Another 134 will see less than 2.25 percent growth in regular school aid."  This means that 2/3 of the Districts in Iowa, including Howard-Winn, are facing funding challenges.
The Governor still needs to sign the Legislature's recommendation.

It goes without saying there are real challenges ahead of us, but with every challenge, there are also opportunities.  I believe that Howard-Winn is as well positioned as any District in Iowa to figure things out and move forward.  Stay positive and together we will make things happen.  At the end of the day it is about our young people.
