Learning at Howard-Winn is no longer limited to the classroom, time or physical space.  This past week 5B students connected and collaborated virtually with Luther College students to build vocabulary.  How cool is it that each student, Crestwood Cadet and Luther Norse, is able to connect and build a relationship for learning!

As we face the challenges of enrollment and funding, Howard-Winn continues to move forward and redefine teaching and learning. With growing relationships with Luther College, Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa; along with critical business and industry partnerships, students at Howard-Winn are receiving an education second to none!

The support and assistance from the Crestwood Dollars for Scholars and the Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools Foundation is evident of the investment and value the community places on our young people.
CADET NATION is a very special place!

April Meeting of the Board of Education
The Howard-Winneshiek Community School, Board of Education will meet 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 11 in the Crestwood Secondary Library. Among the items to be discussed and acted upon are proposed reductions.  Things to keep in mind are that with the decline in enrollment and the state funding, it is estimated that Howard-Winn will have $247,497 less in funding for the upcoming school year. Proposed reductions are projected at $290,839 however negotiated employee wage increase are projected at $294,500. Factoring in the $3,661 difference with a 3% package increase, the District will be spending $251,158 into reserves.

We are indeed in challenging times and hard decisions will need to be made. It is my role to provide the Board recommendations/options and I have faith and every confidence good decisions will be made and we will continue to move forward!

21st century learning looks like THIS!

This past week, Cadet Senior Jordan Voves created a skeleton hand!

The Biology Department Skeleton is missing some parts, so Jordan is making replacement parts! He began the process with scanning the parts we have with the 3d scanner. He next downloaded the information into the Virtual Reality (VR) computers and using the program "Blender"  detailed and "flipped" the rendering.

He then "printed" the rendering using one of the District's 3D printers creating the replacement hand!   Talk about reverse engineering!  This is amazing!

Next up for Jordan is to create a vertebrae!

THANK YOU to the CADET NICC welding class for constructing picnic tables for the Cresco 150 year celebration!
