Howard-Winn has a reputation of leading not only the state, but the Nation, in transforming teaching and learning. As we close in on the year 2020, and the commitment for the class of 2020 being the most recruited, best prepared kids on the planet, it is important to note that the teachers of CADET NATION are doing the "heavy lifting" in making change. I very much value their courage and commitment to "make things happen" and they have my greatest respect. I join with the Crestwood PTO, Howard-Winn parents, patrons, community members and all of CADET NATION in saying THANK YOU!

CADET NATION: Finishing Strong
As we close in on the end of the school year, many wonderful things are happening!

The Spring High School Vocal Concert was impressive! Thank you seniors for your leadership and service YOU ROCK! Good Luck to the Chorus and Band as they compete in the Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA) State Contest, Friday May 6, 2016 in Decorah.

Congratulations to the Boy's 4x100 for a GREAT performance at the Drake Relays last week.  It was awesome to see Crestwood win their heat and see our name at the "top of the scoreboard".  That kind of scoreboard would look "way cool" here at the Crestwood Stadium!

Good Luck to the Boy's and the Girl's Track TEAMS as they prepare and compete in the upcoming Conference and State track meets.  Also a "shout out" and GOOD LUCK to the Boy's and Girl's Golf TEAMS as they too get ready for Conference and State meets.

I do want to THANK all who helped out with TRACK MEETS this year. From the press box timers, to the hurdle "jockeys", to the long jump rackers, to Event Manager Jeff Blyth, everyone's efforts and contributions are truly valued and appreciated.

CADET NATION FORWARD!

Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds at Howard-Winn
It was GREAT to have Lt. Governor Reynolds as well as Executive Director of the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council Dr. Jeff Weld, and Jeff Beneke Regional Manager of Northeast Iowa Regional STEM Hub here at Howard-Winn to see "first-hand" the 21st century innovation, creativity and achievement happening. They all shared how deeply impressed they were.

Shout outs to students, teachers, Crestwood FFA chapter escorts, Principals, Board of Education and NE IOWA STEM Advisory Committee member Scott Fortune for helping to create and tell the story.

The things happening at Howard-Winn could only be made possible with courageous teachers, dedicated administrators, a committed Board of Education, strategic partnership with Northeast Iowa Community College and business partnerships.  Last year alone, utilizing our NICC partnership, over $860,000 in tuition value was saved by the students of Howard-Winn through dual credit opportunities! 126 students earned over 700 credits!

Howard-Winn students are getting an education second to none!

At Howard-Winn the expectation is to collaborate, create and grow.

"SHOUT OUT" and Congratulations to Board Secretary/Business Manager Clint Farlinger and to Human Resource Manager Robyn Lane for their recent graduation from the Iowa School Business Management Academy. Clint and Robyn's dedication to the Howard-Winn School District and their professional growth is valued and appreciated.

The Howard-Winn story was recently shared nationally in the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) blog post: "Providing Transformative Personalized Student Learning Opportunities as a Path Towards Equity"

THANK YOU Elementary Principal Sara Grimm for your leadership and being a spokesperson for Personalized learning.
