Students are EXCITED about the new play ground! Soft tiles on the ground, multiple climbing structures, new swings, let the adventure begin!  Remember: Elementary Parent/Teacher conferences, Secondary Technology "roll out" and "day in the life" on Tuesday, August 23. First day of classes Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Cadet Nation is ready to LAUNCH!

#2020HowardWinn: Passion, Profession and GRIT
The class of 2020 are now freshman and we are closing in on the target that these young people, when they graduate, will be the best prepared kids on the planet. Technology has been embedded into instruction, physical plants have been upgraded, our partnership with Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) is giving our kids a "head start" in helping them to identify professions, Dollars for Scholars and the Howard-Winneshiek Community Schools Foundation is investing in our young people and teachers, CADET NATION is on the move.

What is next?
"Silver Cord"

It provides students an opportunity to serve and we are working on determining kid's passions.  Our NICC connection is helping to connect kids with professions and be college ready,  it is now time to drill down and focus on building "GRIT", the mental power to get it done. GRIT begins with a positive mindset, an attitude of "I can do this."  A person with GRIT has the mental toughness to accomplish and achieve.  Risk avoidance, play it safe, fear of failure, is keeping  many folks, young and old, from reaching their full potential.  A Growth Mindset is the difference between "I'm not good at this to what am I missing?" "I give up to I'll use a different strategy" and "This is too hard to this may take some time."

Train Ugly: Trevor Ragan
Monday, September 19, Trevor Ragan will be here to work with Cadet Nation on what it takes to have a positive Mindset. Trevor will share thinking and lessons learned from motivating and training athletes. This has a direct connection and supports our focus on building GRIT.

More information will follow.  CADET NATION is on the move.

Ready, Set, GO!

THANK YOU Howard County Business & Tourism along with the Kiwanis for welcoming new teachers and providing a wonderful lunch at the Cresco Country Club!

Your thoughtfulness and hospitality is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

New Parking!
Parking and traffic patterns on the north side of Crestwood High School (where buses load at the end of the day) and in front of the K-8 building have been discussed at monthly District Advisory meetings.  As a result, new parking for staff has been added directly North of the K-8 North drive exit.  During work hours this will be for Staff only.  The parking west of the K-8 will be for visitors.

Stadium Update
Our new scoreboard is ordered and tentatively will be in place by our Homecoming Game with Osage September 23.

Planning for the Stadium upgrades are in the final stages. Architects DLR and our construction management team at ESTES are working to ensure we have a quality plan and that it is within budget.

THANK YOU Crestwood All-Sports Booster Club for funding for the scoreboard and for all of your support. You make a difference.
