The 3R's for Learning: Relationships, Relationships, Relationships.  Last Tuesday was a wonderful "pre-party" for the 2016-17 school year. Scheduled Parent -Teacher conferences in the Elementary, Homebase for computer deployment and the "mini" schedule for parents to follow their students daily schedule at Secondary, CADET NATION is ready to ROCK!

THANK YOU to all for your cooperation and flexibility in the start to the school year. In spite of the flooding Wednesday, our "restart" Thursday went off without a hitch.  THANK YOU!!

TLC: Enhancing Learning, Accelerating Change
This fall Howard-Winn will join other school district's from across the state to make operational the Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) initiative.  For the last 24 months, Howard-Winn stakeholders have been working to design a plan that meets State expectations AND supports Howard-Winn's vision of change and achievement.

Our plan focuses on providing differentiated support and resources for teachers, by teachers.

Job descriptions/responsibilities have been created and applicants interviewed and selected. We are good to go!

Mark your calendar: All Sports Booster Club membership drive coming your way!
Sunday, August 28 beginning at 4:00. Cadet student-athletes will be going "door to door" throughout CADET NATION!

Be part of the EXCITEMENT that is CADET NATION!

IMPORTANT: Elementary Parking and Football Admission Gates
Two items to take note of:
  • With new staff parking at the K-8 building, parents are asked to use the parking directly in front of the building AND NOT PARK IN THE YELLOW MARKED DRIVE. This is for the safety of children and pedestrians.
  • Admission to Football Friday nights will be through the Main North gate (facing the high school) and at the visitor gate on the East end of the Stadium (next to NICC). There will no longer be an admission gate by the Solar Panels. This is because it is not handicapped accessible, it is uneven ground, and will keep folks away from the Solar Panels and the Band as they warm up.
THANK YOU #2020HowardWinn TEAM!

Mr. Trende's TEAM has been working fast and hard to get the building ready to go. Transportation Director Swestka diligently has been putting together Bus Routes. Cheryl Dickman and the Food Service TEAM are ready to feed us. Ms. Klenke and Harold Jensen THANK YOU for TECH rollout and support!

#CADETNATION is not one, but all of us, pulling together. Innovation and creativity is also not limited to the GREAT work going on in the classroom, but can be found throughout the organization. ROCK STAR Custodian Jerry Palmersheim's T-shirt says it all: "Let me drop everything and work on your problem". THANK YOU Jerry for designing and building the classroom charging stations for the iPads.  You need to get that copyrighted!

ACT: College Readiness
We received ACT test results from last years cadre of students. It is important to note that the ACT test is a "dot to dot" paper and pencil test. The over all 21.7 composite score of Howard-Winn students who took the test last spring, is but .4 off the State average of 22.1.

College Ready
ACT has found that students ready for College-Level Coursework generally score well in College English/Composition, College Algebra, College Social Studies, and Biology. If you look at the far right column, the State average is 32% and Howard-Winn score is 33%.
Be sure to check out the "ACT Composite Score of 30 or Higher" in the Crestwood High School Cafeteria. Way to go Nicole, Gretchen, Michaela and Noah!

This about says it all!  The 2016-17 school
year is "o - fish - ally" started.

Have a wonderful year to ALL!

Grow and GO!
