Fire Safety Week at Howard-Winn
THANK YOU Cresco Fire Department for coming and sharing with young CADETS last week. Your instructions and teaching will help to keep kids SAFE. Your equipment and fire trucks are WAY COOL!

THANK YOU for your service and courage.

CADET NATION unites to Battle Hunger
Thursday, October 20, "2020HowardWInn" will come together to package meals to feed the hungry.  This has been an annual community event and, in 2016, ALL Howard-Winneshiek students, K-12, will have an opportunity to serve!

This year CADET NATION is working on building a growth mindset, GRIT, and a realization that each person can make a difference.  The goal for the day is to package 50,000+ meals. Community volunteers are welcome.  Set up will begin at 8:00; packaging will begin at 10:30.

Iowa Department of Education at Howard-Winn
The Director of the Iowa Department of Education, Dr. Ryan Wise, toured Howard-Winn this past week. Dr. Wise talked with the TLC instructional coaches, visited elementary, junior high and high school classrooms as well as spending time in the Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Cresco center.

Dr. Wise shared he was impressed with all that is happening at #2020HowardWinn.

I have to say that walking around with visitors and showing them innovation and creativity happening at Howard-Winn is inspirational.

The creativity and courage of the teachers to be fearless, coupled with the student's energy and excitement for learning, is infectious.

Cadet Nation is on the move.

Iowa United States Senator Joni Ernst
It was a joy and pleasure to have Iowa's junior U.S. Senator Joni Ernst in Cadet Nation last Thursday. Senator Ernst's remarks were informative and reflective.

The audience was updated on several initiatives and listened to concerns. Specific to education, student transportation to school by bus in rural areas and broadband connectivity was discussed.

Senator Ernst's service to Iowa is valued and appreciated.

Howard-Winneshiek Bus Garage: Energy Efficient
With the addition of Solar Panels, coupled with the installation of "used oil" furnaces, the Howard-Winneshiek bus garage is now "off the grid".

This project was paid for with Physical Plant and Equipment / SAVE funding.  Energy savings will be realized in the General Fund. This step forward illustrates how the District strives to be prudent with taxpayer dollars.  THANK YOU to Building and Grounds Director Larry Trende and Transportation Director Brian Swestka for working together and thinking outside the box!

Good Luck CADET Volleyball in the NEIC conference Tournament and in the first round of the State Tournament!
