#2020Howard-Winn: the "edge of the cutting edge"
Looking back at last week, I can't help but reflect that what is "normal" at Howard-Winn is special and unique in other places.

SKYPING from Arlington Cemetery and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, students were able to see the Changing of the Guard and witness the honor and reverence given to those who have served our country, making the ultimate sacrifice.

For the third time in four years, the Howard-Winn story was shared with folks charged with creating national policy and direction. Contributing to conversations and thinking with superintendents from across the United States, staff from the U.S. Department of Education and White House Domestic Policy Council, Howard-Winn was referred to as being the "edge of the cutting edge".

Last Thursday professors from the University of Northern Iowa were on site connecting with Howard-Winn educators, visiting classrooms and seeing firsthand what 21st century teaching and learning looks like.  It is important to note they asked to come and see the happenings at CADET NATION.

Joining hundreds of Board members from across the state to connect and learn, Board of Education members Toni Johnson, Karlos McClure, and Board President Duane Bodermann, along with Business Manager / Board Secretary Clint Farlinger and I attended the Iowa Association of School Boards State Convention in Des Moines.  A big "take away" from the experience is that nobody in Iowa is educating students any better than Howard-Winn!

Keynote speaker John Draper, National Consultant, National School Public Relations Association, had Howard-Winn representatives participate in his presentation. Very Cool!

The bottom line in all of this is the energy, excitement and action happening in each and every classroom in CADET NATION. The commitment of all is to serve and empower the young people!
