Abbie Bergan's work was designated as the American Vision Nominee for the State of Iowa.  This means her work was selected from a field of over 17,000 as the best of show. It will put on display in New York City this summer.

How we are using TECHNOLOGY?
We are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational software company, in order to learn more about our students’ school and home technology use for learning.

For that reason, we are reaching out to ask you to take part in the Clarity questionnaire. Your participation is essential in helping us form a more complete picture of technology use for learning in your students’ lives. Please know that all of your responses will remain anonymous to protect your privacy.

Howard-Winn students, staff and patrons will begin taking the online BrightBytes, Clarity questionnaire starting the week of January 23rd. Here is the link:

Community Voice: Needs Assessment
Board Members and Staff, Parents and Community Members, Students, your voice is important as Howard-Winn begins to take next steps forward.

Our school district has requested a Needs Assessment Survey be conducted by the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB).  This electronic online survey is designed to help us assess our strengths and areas of needed improvement, with a focus on improving student achievement. All responses are anonymous and we "Thank you" in advance for your participation.
This site will become active on February 13, 2017!

Stadium Update
Work continues to move forward on the Stadium project. Footings are in place for the bleachers, site work completed for the Concession/Bathroom structure with construction of the footings for the building next.

From the State House in Des Moines
School Funding
The Iowa Senate passed a 1.1% increase in education funding, despite the Governor's 2% recommendation.  It now goes to the House and from there to the Governor to sign.  1.1% is going to force change in many places. With 181 Districts having a decline in enrollment + 74 Districts with a 2% or less enrollment increase, public education in Iowa cannot continue as we know it.  Change is going to happen and Howard-Winn has been preparing for it.

Transportation Bill is in the works and if passed, would GREATLY help our financial bottom line.

Discussion and work on Chapter 20 is up next for the Legislature. Chapter 20 (of the Iowa Code) deals with collective bargaining.  With what has been shared with me, and from discussion I have been a part of, if passed, will reshape negotiations and Mater Contracts.  As we go forward, it is important to remember that Howard-Winn teachers and  support staff are the reason Howard-Winn has experienced success and achievement.  It is my belief they understand the current financial condition, both at the locally and State level.  To say this is an emotional time for all involved is an understatement. More information will follow.

Looking to move forward on the 2017-18 School Calendar
