Mock Crash

On Friday, April 7th law enforcement and emergency personnel from throughout Howard County will work together to, first, demonstrate to students the tragic realities of responding to vehicle crashes and then meet in the auditorium at Crestwood High School to speak about personal experiences and encourage students to make positive life decisions.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors at Crestwood will witness firsthand the devastating and sometimes permanent effects that making poor decisions, such as texting, drinking alcohol and/or using drugs, can have on those who choose to do so and get behind the wheel.

An effort is made to allow time for our students to do most of their work at school. Some students who work more slowly or who find if difficult to accomplish much during study hall will find it necessary to bring homework home to finish assignments.

The question about the homework workload at the 7th and 8th grade level was recently asked, more specifically, it was about homework on Wednesday nights.

Meaningful homework can serve several purposes:
  • It helps to reinforce what’s being taught in the classroom and help students take skills and concepts from the short term memory to the long term memory.
  • It enables parents to actively engage in their child’s education
  • It helps teach fundamental skills such as time management, organization, task completion, as well as responsibility.
  • It allows students to demonstrate mastery of material without the assistance of a teacher.
A survey was sent out to 7th and 8th grade students and the results were shared and discussed at a staff meeting.

Some of the results are shared below:
