Trout in the Classroom
Mrs. Siepkers' science classroom has a tank full of Trout—they have been raising them from eggs and will release them in Iowa streams soon. This is possible through a national Trout Unlimited program, Trout in the Classroom, allows students to raise fish and learn about their habitat and the importance of clean water.

Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an environmental education program in which students in grades k-12 . . .
raise trout from eggs.
monitor tank water quality.
engage in stream habitat study.
learn to appreciate water resources.
begin to foster a conservation ethic.
grow to understand ecosystems.

The students will end the year by releasing their trout in a state-approved stream near the school or within a nearby watershed.

The plan is to release the trout in Bigalk's Trout Stream.

Did you know... all Crestwood Graduates are certified in CPR.

High School Students are currently receiving CPR training in Mrs. McAllister's and Mr. Slifka's Physical Education classes.

Following the training students will receive a CPR course completion card.

Free Presentation on Financial Aid Offered

High school juniors and their parents will be able to get information on the college financial aid process during a free presentation offered by Crestwood Dollars for Scholars, Crestwood High School and the Iowa College Access Network® (ICAN).

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16th in the gym at Crestwood High School. During the presentation, students and parents will receive information on topics including the financial aid process, understanding FAFSA results and college costs, financial aid options, the scholarship process and completing and filing financial aid forms.

“This presentation is very helpful for juniors and parents who are unsure exactly what is involved in the financial aid process,” says Trish Hartman. “As students get closer to their senior year and graduation, they and their families often find the entire process confusing and discouraging. Our aim is to make the process more clear, especially with the changes that have occurred.”

Families will learn how to complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a free form available from the U.S. Department of Education via Although professional assistance is not necessary to file the form, ICAN’s free services help reduce confusion and can ensure accuracy.

For more information about the presentation, students and parents should contact Trish Hartman at Crestwood High School by calling 563-547-2764.

Grief Support

Support for those who have lost a loved one to suicide is available at Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health in Decorah.

The group will meet on the first Sunday of the Month beginning on May 7th.

#cadetnation Friday
Reminder: #cadetnation Fridays are the first Friday of every month. This is a way to show your Cadet spirit. Remember to wear your #cadetnation t-shirt on the first Friday of the month. Students, wear your #cadetnation shirt to school on Friday, May 5th.

If you don't have a #cadetnation t-shirt or it is in the laundry, wear another Cadet shirt or just wear blue that day.
